Message to potential students from the founder of Chemhack 3011

I went to a run of the mill government high school in the north western suburbs of Melbourne in the early 1990’s, disengaged from the formal educational experience of my high school I left in Year 12 shortly after sitting the first semester exams. I had not met the minimum requirements of attendance to successfully complete the year, this was due to truancy.

After leaving school I worked in the production line of a picture framing factory and in supermarket logistics packing shelves. This occupation became boring after a while so in 1998 I returned to study as an adult student at the Western Melbourne Institute of Tafe in Footscray. (Notice that 3011 is the postcode of Footscray.)

At the time this was one of the lowest tiered educational ranked colleges in Victoria, however  I successfully completed the VCE and achieved the marks necessary to get accepted into The Bachelor of Applied Science at RMIT University, this was despite the 10% penalty applied to my tertiary entrance score from doing a second attempt at the VCE.

After successfully completing my Bachelors degree I have worked as a qualified scientist in the Petrochemical, Research and Pharmaceutical Industry. Inspired by the teachers that had made a difference I returned to study at the University of Melbourne and completed my Post graduate diploma in teaching.

Due to needing to secure permanent work I returned to work in the Pharmaceutical Industry and then was given the opportunity to teach and demonstrate at Monash University, I returned back to industry due to the short term contract and limited permanent positions available in education.

My last most recent role was at CSL Behring as a Quality Control Analyst. Returning to education was not an easy decision as CSL Behring is one of the largest scientific players on the ASX and one of the largest employers of scientists in Melbourne, however I am keen to make a difference in your learning and inspire you to think like a scientist!

I believe that the postcode you live in should not determine your educational outcomes. I intuitively and intrinsically know from my own educational experience learning from the best and worst teachers how students learn which is why I have founded this business.

A friend of mine once joked and said I went to school twice. I laughed at that and agreed…Yep twice a week! The irony of that now is that I am an educator!

Tutoring Students for academic excellence!

I look forward to working with you.

Sincerely,

Kathy.
